IT opens habitually on the space of the gallery. “The expectation.” is a garage door blocked from its natural function of opening by a permanent pillar of the gallery, removing it from its primal function. Ostracized from its utility, it becomes an abstracted picture of metallic greens and reds in constant movement.
As we enter the second exposition space, light is filtered by pink plastic screens. A wallpaper, a wall of another potential setting, in a grid motive entitled "On the Other Side".
Confined within a pink painted wall, the installation “Casting” is a methodically organized metallic archiving shelves on which one can have access to boxes containing latex masks in the effigy of homonymes of Franck David: potential personages ready to be reinterpreted in reality.
Painted in wide characters with the word GENERIQUE, the installation" Not any history, not any film, not" crackles in florescent light covered with chrome-plated beads. The amplified sound of microphones play a random musical suggestion.
At the center of the space, an inflated head in metallic colors is mounted on a cube pedestal, A hole opens at the mouth of the inflation allows us to see the interior. A gilded color there reflects the interior. The air is projected through the eyes.
The exposition “The Future Wrinkles” is the continuition of a work in progress started at the time of two concurrent expositions in Strasbourg, one being at the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, and the other at the Boiler Room, an exhibition space at the School of Decorative Arts.
These two exhibitions enable David to execute a perculiar filming sequence: Recordings by surveillance cameras during the length of the expositions implicate the sequence of everyone actions carried out by viewers going between the two exhibitions constitute the very matter of his film, "Because of A Total Lack of Interest, Tomorrow is Canceled* During the Length of the Credits'.
This exhibition serves as a contextual response to the film as much as a direct progression from it. During the exposition, the film is projected on a screen besides the installation “Casting”.
As typical of all works of Franck David, the exposition "The Future Wrinkles" open and closes with a sculpture visible from the gallery entrance window. “+ Boredom” is a wooden construction covered partially by the same chained-link fence patterned wallpaper as the secondary gallery wall. The structure entraps a black rubber basketball, resting alongside the traces of its own marking.
